"The right method of
doing asanas brings lightness and an exhilaration feeling in the body as well
as in the mind and a feeling of oneness of body, mind and soul." Light on Yoga, B.K.S. Iyengar
My objective is to enable people of all abilities and ages to access more movement, flexibility, strength and breath in their daily lives. I come from over twenty-five years of teaching university and private high school students. Now I am teaching everyone, particularly kids my own age! My goals are to work with clients individually teaching classes that are tailored to individual needs and abilities. Personal attention and patient instruction is key. Practicing yoga with correct alignment is far more important than achieving the apex of any pose because it is the process and the discipline of yoga, as opposed to the achievement of poses that is most important and beneficial. Vinyasa yoga is movement associated with breath, the linking of body movement with breath. "The concept that guides the performance of an asana and also the course of practice is called vinyasa. It means step-by-step, a progression that has a beginning, middle, and end. When applied to a particular posture, vinyasa begins with visualization, proceeds to the starting position and the incorporation of the breath into the movement. The asana is performed with concentration on the flow of the movement and smoothness of inhalation, exhalation and often retention of breath, and toward the prescribed completion. Each step is a preparation for the next. And so it is with the sequence of asanas. Each posture is part of a flow of exercise: a beginning, a building toward a posture that is the height of the program, and then a progression toward an ending." Health, Healing and Beyond, Krishnamacharya Chair yoga, like yoga done on a mat, can be as challenging as you make it, its up to you and what your body can do, every body is different and each day each body is different. Most any pose done on a mat can be taught to be performed on a chair. |
